Smooth Soul at the Rrazz Room With the Dramatics
- Full Price:
- $50.00
- Our Price:
- $25.00
Enjoy some classic smooth soul and quiet storm R&B in the sophisticated and intimate setting of the Rrazz Room, one of San Francisco's premiere night clubs. In their early '70s heyday, the Dramatics were an anomaly: a Detroit singing group signed not to their famed hometown label, Motown, but to the legendary Southern soul label Stax/Volt. Their sound, as heard on hit singles like "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" and "In the Rain," straddles both worlds, combining the Temptations-like silky-smooth harmonies of Motown with the earthiness of Memphis-style soul. Still performing after more than 40 years, the group features veteran member L.J. Reynolds along with Willie Ford, Donald Albert and Winzell Kelly. Learn More

Description
The Rrazz Room is pleased to announce a return engagement for the vocalist Clairdee and her special brand of musical storytelling. While it might seem strange to describe a singer as hip as Clairdee as a throwback, she is an artist who embodies creative values that hearken back to a time when jazz, pop, and rhythm and blues often blended seamlessly together. With her lustrous voice and soulful delivery, she has honed a repertoire of standards set to state of the art arrangements that are equally smart and entertaining. "My mission is to uplift and inspire through music," Clairdee says. "In that regard, I consider myself a soul singer — reaching from the inside out, telling stories, stirring emotions, helping my listeners feel good." Clairdee's stylistically encompassing approach and remarkable gift for live performance are beautifully documented on her third album, Music Moves, recorded in concert to a standing room only audience. Her knack for pairing songs that enhance each other is perfectly embodied in her signature mashup of the Joe Williams/Count Basie hit "All Right, Okay, You Win" with the lean instrumental funk of Les McCann and Eddie Harris’ “Cold Duck Time.” Jazz Times writes, "The effervescent Nancy Wilson-esque Clairdee is in sassy, solidly assured, crowd-pleasing form. But dig a little deeper and you’ll discover a whole lot of interpretive brilliance going on." Music Moves is a fascinating counterpoint to Clairdee's first release, Destination Moon, a luminous collection of beloved standards, such as "Star Eyes" and "Time After Time," which Down Beat describes as "a swinging, low-lights saunter of straight-ahead jazz romance caressed by Clairdee's gorgeous voice." The Los Angeles Daily News calls Clairdee's sophomore recording, This Christmas, "one of the best new Christmas albums in years — a winning blend of soul and swing that's full of interesting choices." A touring artist, Clairdee continues to garner rave reviews and makes her debut at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in the United Kingdom this summer. The versatile vocalist has also worked with and opened for a diverse roster of artists including the Count Basie Orchestra, Bucky Pizzarelli, Etta James, David Sanborn, Boz Scaggs, Cyrus Chestnut, Houston Person, and Dianne Schuur. Clairdee's scene-stealing charisma, heartfelt humility, and a sincere belief in the transformative power of music, make her concerts joyous and entertaining, earning loyal fans wherever she performs. Intelligent and articulate, Clairdee’s skills as a first-rate interviewer can be heard on her Podcast series "Life Inspired", heard exclusively on her website. Interviewees include Dianne Reeves, Ivan Lins and Nancy Wilson.
