The sextet Gaucho performs its unique gypsy jazz mix at St. Andrew's. The band draws on the traditional gypsy jazz sounds of Django Reinhardt and other 1930's European artists, while also incorporating New Orleans swing music to offer a more modern, energetic take on the gypsy jazz genre. great big band jazz - they were amazing! it was a wednesday night, and the place was pretty empty - so we got great service and an almost private show! highly recommended (and i don't even like jazz that much)! the two drink minimum is a bit rediculous (when drinks are $12 a pop) but what are you gonna do?

The Orchestra was AWESOME. Although the place wasn't packed, they gave a really good performance and entertained the crowd. The guys had chemistry, and supported each other - which made the atmosphere very nice. If you love jazz music like I do, this is worth it for the price! And there was the group has a singer who sounded just like Michael Buble!
This is perfect for a date, or if you have never been to a jazz performance, this will break you in. The ticket that you buy through this site is good for the 2 sets that are performed. So be ready for a 3.5 hour show w/ a break in between.
Definitely want to see them again.
NOTE: Parking SUCKS. So come early, and be prepared to circle the blocks around the venue a couple of times.

I really, really liked it!! Started off sort of slow and gathered momentum as the musicians warmed up and got into their stride. The lead saxophonist and a number of other musicians stood out. The woman on drums, Beth Goodfellow, was superb. I thought it was fun and will likely find myself sitting at the bar on a Wednesday night and listening to them again. I'd recommend this for anyone. What a nice band.

The Collective West Jazz Orchestra is a 12-piece big band that plays delightful, high-energy jazz. The repertoire includes a full range of big band styles, from Count Basie classics to straight-ahead ballads and burners, to challenging contemporary numbers. You might walk in on a soulful blues trombone solo that gets the crowd howling on “Lonely Boy,” then bop along to a spirited tenor solo during an intriguing arrangement of Monk's “Think of One.” You might get to hear the band's up-tempo version of “Just Friends” and feel like you're listening to a Las Vegas pit band circa 1964.
The Collective West Jazz Orchestra is led by saxophonist Fil Lorenz, who fell in love with big bands while a member of the prestigious Menlo-Atherton High School Orchestra. The band includes great Bay Area big band talent: hot, professional jazz players who know how to handle a chart and a solo. These musicians have shared the stage with jazz luminaries like Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Louie Bellson, Rosemary Clooney and others.
Lorenz began trying to put a big band together in 1998, after returning to the Bay Area from a four-year Navy stint. His original inspirations were Count Basie, and Maynard Ferguson's bands of the '50s and '60s. A long tenure on Tuesday nights forged in the atmospheric basement performance space of Johnny Foley's Pub helped forge the Collective West Jazz Orchestra into a rollicking and dynamic ensemble.
PLEASE NOTE: All shows at Pearl's require a two-drink minimum per person.
