Quotes & Highlights
Johnny Steele is “a thinking man’s comic.” —Where Magazine
Bud Freedman, of Improv fame, said Johnny reminded him of an irritated Mort Sahl.
“An intense comic whose best material grows out of anger at the state of modern American culture.” —San Francisco Examiner
Johnny Steele started performing stand up comedy in 1984 and within just a few years was performing at top clubs in the industry. But after criss-crossing the country a few times Johnny began to tire of the generic humor so popular in clubs at the time and began a search for a more meaningful subject matter and performance style.
He began studying the great satirists, especially Lenny Bruce, and devouring newspaper’s editorial pages with highlighter pen in hand. Soon he began peppering his act with opinions about things that outraged him; greed, materialism, hypocracy.
The formula was a hit and in 1992 Johnny won the prestiegous SFICC. Bud Freedman, of Improv fame, said Johnny reminded him of an irritated Mort Sahl.
Described as a “A thinking man’s comic,” by Where Magazine, you’ve seen him on TV Co-hosting “The Show” on KRON TV and on numerous Comedy Shows on NBC, A&E, MTV & the Comedy Club Network.
