A dark satire by Pulitzer Prize winner and Academy Award nominee Sam Shepard, Curse of the Starving Class is at once hilarious and profound, frighteningly true and delightfully surreal. The story follows a malnourished and rather bizarre family searching for freedom, security and their piece of the American pie.

Sam Shepard's Curse of the Starving Class is given a newly revised staging by bold, young American director Peter DuBois, the new artistic director of Boston's Huntington Theatre Company.

A farmhouse somewhere in the American West is inhabited by a mysterious refrigerator, a redemptive kitchen table and the members of the Tate family, each of whom has plans to sell the house and pursue their dreams. They may have more than enough to eat, but not enough to satisfy their hunger for the elusive American Dream.

Sam Shepard is one of America’s finest playwrights. He has won the Obie Award (11 times), the Pulitzer Prize, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and Outer Critics Circle Award, and has been inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame for his achievements as a playwright, screenplay writer and actor. He has written 45 plays and four screenplays, and has appeared in nearly 20 films.
