The day was fantastic. Most of the folks in our van were local, and we all agreed it is something we want to do again ... and bring more friends next time. The choices of the 5 wineries were perfect, displaying a wide variety of types, venues, price ranges, etc. All were small to medium size. We ended up buying more than 2 cases of wines that could only be bought through the wineries themselves, and we joined 2 wine clubs for more wine in the future. We heartily recommend this. The only downside is that the vehicle is a van and not a small bus, which would have been more comfortable and easier to get in and out of.Written on Feb 16 2009

This is the best deal around if you want to enjoy wine country without having to worry about who is going to drive.Written on Nov 07 2010
Tip - when you stop in Yountville there is a wonderful bakery - Bouchon Bakery. Go there first as the lines can get long.
Mark (our wonderful tour guide) was very knowledgeable about San Francisco and the wine area. We went to 4 wineries (actually 5 but I don't count the sparkling winery - see comments below). The first one was Milat. This is a very small winery and the host was entertaining. We understood the host becomes even more entertaining in the afternoon. Seems all of his stories involved drunk people - go figure. The 2nd one was Rutherford Hills which also included a cave tour. After this one I was very happy and had a nice buzz on. Then came the disastrous experience at the sparkling winery (Mumm) which I have noted below. The 3rd winery was Sebastiani - this winery was okay - not crazy about it. The last one was Jacuzzi winery and they were great. Make sure you tell them you are with Extranomical as they give discounts for being on the tour.
The only drawback to my day was some of the other people in the van. Big tip - if you are NOT a sparkling wine fan - make your voice heard that you don't want to go to winery that only has sparkling wine. My husband and I don't care for sparkling wine but thought we'd be agreeable to the stop - BIG MISTAKE! Mark told the inconsiderate other people on the tour that we were stopping for 20 minutes. We didn't leave until 45 minutes later and that was with Mark reminding them that it was time to wrap up. If you do get stuck with something like this - just make sure the time limit is adhered to.
As a result, we didn't get to have our lunch stop until 2:15. Again we had a time limit - and again inconsiderate boorish people did not honor it. Also at the Sebastiani winery one of said inconsiderate people skipped out without paying for his wine tasting. I wanted to say something in the van, but my husband wouldn't let me.
So the trick is to get a bunch of nice people. And if you get jerks - to try and let them affect you as little as possible. What can I say - if you can take over the whole van with your group you will be so much better off.
Thanks Mark for a wondeful time.

Van picked up groups at various hotels. No coordinated plan as to where to go and it felt very random. Spent way too much driving from Napa back to Sonoma, so too much time in the car.Written on Oct 25 2010

Description
You don’t have to be on your honeymoon to go on this tour, but it can’t hurt to take your special someone on this tour through America’s best known wine producing region. The Wine Lovers Wine Country Tour is a semi-private tour, which means you’ll be traveling in a smaller group, so you’ll have a little more room in the vehicle and a little more freedom in choosing where to go. The tour might be all Napa Valley, or all Sonoma Valley, or some of both. Your guide will spend some time in the first hour discussing the options and taking suggestions. The group can decide to go to both Sonoma and Napa Valleys, or concentrate on just one “neighborhood”. This usually means visiting from four to six boutique wineries in one day. On the rest of the drive north, your guide will fill you in on the colorful history of California and wine making therein, and the short drives between wineries afford time to talk about the science and art of wine making, and wine tasting, and other fascinating topics.
This trip will provide the opportunity to sample wineries from various Napa regions such as Los Carneros, Rutherford, Oakville, St. Helena, Yountville or Stags Leap, and/or the Sonoma Valley region. Some wineries offer complimentary tastings, but most charge a fee ranging from $5 to $10 or more, and winery hosted tours usually cost extra. The group can suggest changes to the route of the tour. Your guide will use experience and knowledge to help the group decide where to go within the southern portions of both famous valleys, give hints about where the best deals are if you want to buy or ship home, and make suggestions to maximize the visual attraction, while minimizing the tasting fees and the driving time.
