Pianist, vocalist and composer Frank Jackson has been a star of the San Francisco jazz scene for more than 60 years. For this special series of shows at the Rrazz Room, he gathers his musical friends to pay tribute to another legend -- Nat King Cole -- with special guest vocalist Kim Nalley. A recent honoree of the SF Fillmore Jazz Heritage Pioneer Award and a consummate entertainer, Jackson will sing and reminisce, performing some of Cole's greatest hits, among them "The Christmas Song," "Mona Lisa," and "When I Fall in Love." Jackson is also set to duet with Nalley on "Unforgettable."

Smooth Soul at the Rrazz Room With the Dramatics

Full Price:
$50.00
Our Price:
$25.00

Enjoy some classic smooth soul and quiet storm R&B in the sophisticated and intimate setting of the Rrazz Room, one of San Francisco's premiere night clubs. In their early '70s heyday, the Dramatics were an anomaly: a Detroit singing group signed not to their famed hometown label, Motown, but to the legendary Southern soul label Stax/Volt. Their sound, as heard on hit singles like "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" and "In the Rain," straddles both worlds, combining the Temptations-like silky-smooth harmonies of Motown with the earthiness of Memphis-style soul. Still performing after more than 40 years, the group features veteran member L.J. Reynolds along with Willie Ford, Donald Albert and Winzell Kelly. Learn More

Wonderful performer, very professional, creative and plays to the audience. He has been recognized for many years in New York but
has now relocated here in to the Bay Area. We are the lucky ones to
now be able to enjoy his performance, and always with top-of-the-line side musicians. Last night at the Rrazz room, also enjoyed Kim Nalley who was also dynamic and shared the songs with Frank, especially memorable: Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable"

Description

The RRazz Room Legendary Bay Area Giants of Jazz Concert Series

SF veteran, Frank Jackson, an acknowledged "living legend" of the renowned after-hours Fillmore district's Jimbo's Bop City, was the house pianist during that club's halcyon years of the 1940s and '50s, when every history-making jazz icon played there. Jackson will reminisce, sing and play some Nat King Cole favorites and will be joined by the exquisite KIm Nalley for a number of beautiful duets, including "Unforgettable".

Legendary Bay Area Giant of Jazz, Frank J. Jackson has long been recognized as a brilliant jazz pianist and vocalist, standup vocalist, bandleader, producer, recording artist and composer. For more than 60 years, Frank has been serving up his impeccable, elegant piano style, smooth warm vocals and unique phrasing. Frank Jackson's place in San Francisco jazz history is solidified even more forcibly, as he is prominently featured in Harlem of the West, the recent best-selling history of the Fillmore Street Jazz era of the 1940s and 1950s, with an exhibit revolving around the book, which was on display at SF PALM, Jazz Heritage Center, and African Museum in LA.

Frank composed the music for KQED's 2007 documentary, The War: Bay Area Stories, which aired September 2007. Frank Jackson, recent honoree of SF Fillmore Jazz Heritage Pioneer Award and Public Radio Lifetime Achievement by four public radio stations, has heard it all, sung it all and met them all. He has performed with and for the greats: Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Ben Webster, Charlie Bird Parker, John Coltrane, Lester Young, Chet Baker, just to name a few.
