Brian Copeland's New Solo Show The Waiting Period at The Marsh
- Full Price:
- $25.00
- Our Price:
- $12.50
The Marsh presents a workshop performance of Brian Copeland's new solo show, The Waiting Period. Copeland, a multi-talented actor, playwright, author and talk show host, has basked in the glow of both public and critical acclaim for nearly a decade. However, like many other well-known figures, he suffers from debilitating bouts of depression. This show gives an unrelenting look at a ten-day period in his life: the mandatory waiting period before he could lay hands on a new gun with which he planned to commit suicide. Even in the throes of such tragic plans, though, his sense of humor does not desert him (how much should he spend on the gun?), and in fact protects him from the grim reality of his intention. There is laughter in the darkness. Interspersed with interviews with other people suffering from depression, the play also offers outsiders an insider's view, thereby expanding the audience's understanding and, hopefully, humanity. Unique Derique will tickle your funny bone! Superb show with youth performers and Unique Derique--stilt walking tricks, bodies walking on BIG balls, acrobatic feats, juggling, dancing, and humorous site gags will leave you in awe, wanting more, and it will leave you wondering: How did they do THAT?!!!

After meeting Mr. Unique Derique at the SF Library, I quickly gathered all the grandchildren to see his Holidaze performance. We were truly delighted by the youth acrobatics & juggling skills. The show was funny, enjoyable and entertaining. Thank you Derique!Written on Dec 31 2009

The reviews I read did not say this was for young children, if it did I would not have attended. We left after about 30 minutes maybe, never did see any hip hop dancers. The juggling wasn't too good, dropped too many times, seems like the kids were just starting to learn how to put a show on. The little kids really liked it though.Written on Dec 21 2009

Definitely a great performance - small, intimate, bare-bones/homespun, totally worth seeing. All of the audience members were laughing and excited - take your kids for sure!!! It was a treat to see kids performing with Derique. Following the show I overheard one young male performer offering encouragement and coaching to another young fellow from the audience who mentioned that he's working on overcoming stage-fright. This was a very positive energy event, captures the joy of the Holiday spirit. Attend this performance and leave grinning from ear to ear.Written on Dec 14 2009
