I am a huge fan of Mark Cantor and his jazz film series. Those who thought "too much talking" miss the point. These events are more a jazz "short course" designed to educate as well as entertain. Mark requires the audience to listen as a scholarly lecture and learn, rather than merely watch film clips. Approach these events as a way to enhance your love of jazz and film, rather than as a passive film amusement, and you will benefit greatly.
May 3, 2014: Broadway to Hollywood and All That Jazz
A lot of the repertoire of classic jazz can be largely traced to the Broadway stage and Hollywood musical. Join us for an evening of film featuring jazz performances of compositions by the Gershwins, Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Johnny Mercer and many more.
