This is a must-do for tourists and people who have lived here for years! It was a blast! And quite a bonding experience with my wife. It took 20 years off our jaded souls.Written on Jan 02 2009
Despite living in SF over 30 years we still saw new things - due to a combination of slow speed and grass-high viewing angle. The audio tour is informative and quite magical the way the GPS knew our location to within one-half-block.
The cars handle great and the brakes are very effective - reassuring when an SUV ran a red light on Van Ness as we were crossing. We're happy to hear four-stroke engines are coming to these vehicles. The lack of torque in the two-strokes could be dangerous and was annoying on any slope greater than 6 degrees. Plus, our car was very loud - as the GoCar staff member corroborated when we returned it.
We took the Parks tour in order to stay out of traffic, and due to engine noise couldn't hear the audio directions coming out of the Presidio - so missed a turn to the Palace of Fine Arts. Even though we hardly stopped during the drive, we still took 2-3/4 hours to get back to Hyde Street. We paid 39- more for the extra insurance and 45 minutes of time. Budget accordingly.
Dress as you would for snow sports. We froze our buns off.

This was fun and way better than I expected. I will do it again. I did the park tour and really enjoyed it and learned a lot. The go-cars are slow but you are seldom on the main roads. However, It helped to not come to a complete stop at the stop signs. Take a cap to wear under the motorcycle helment, gloves and sunglasses. Something hot to drink and snacks would be helpful. On one steep hill, had to push the car.Written on Nov 24 2009

More intimate than a tour bus, quicker than walking, and more thrilling than biking, the GoCar tour is a wonderful way to experience some of San Francisco's most scenic vistas and beautiful neighborhoods. We drove to the Golden Gate Bridge, through The Presidio, and back around through Golden Gate Park - a 2.5 hr tour - in about 1 hr 45 minutes and felt like we had plenty of time to see everything and that we had gotten a terrific bargain.Written on Jan 07 2010

What a great idea & great execution of an idea. Seamless & shameless! I would recommend a pair of gloves, as the wind can make the hands of the driver chilly. The other problem was that on our January day, it started to rain and that combined with the cold made my daughter turn into a popsicle. Other than that we had a great time! The minimum 2 hours will not really allow you to stop anywhere but for a photo shoot, so don't plan on it unless you realize you will need to purchase the extra 1-2 hours.Written on Jan 22 2008

Description
GoCar is the world's first computer-guided storytelling car. The clever talking car navigates for you, but that's not all. As you drive, it points out the sights and tells you the stories that bring San Francisco to life.
You can stop along the way. You set your own pace. The car always knows where you are and you can park anywhere you want (motorcycle parking or car parking) for as long as you want, and as soon as you start to drive again, the car will begin to talk!
You don't have to stay on the guided tour. If there is a San Francisco sight you wish to see but is not yet included on the tour, just use the map they provide to navigate your own way through the city streets. You can even put a CD in the stereo and enjoy music along the way!
The GoCar will do 35-mph. Cars are approved for use on city streets, but not the bridges or freeways.
The 3-wheeled cars seat two and have a lockable trunk for your things. Their small size makes parking a breeze, and in San Francisco, that's a major bonus. They can even be parked in motorcycle parking.
Choose from more than 100 points of interest on your tour!
