What a great idea & great execution of an idea. Seamless & shameless! I would recommend a pair of gloves, as the wind can make the hands of the driver chilly. The other problem was that on our January day, it started to rain and that combined with the cold made my daughter turn into a popsicle. Other than that we had a great time! The minimum 2 hours will not really allow you to stop anywhere but for a photo shoot, so don't plan on it unless you realize you will need to purchase the extra 1-2 hours.

This is a must-do for tourists and people who have lived here for years! It was a blast! And quite a bonding experience with my wife. It took 20 years off our jaded souls.
Despite living in SF over 30 years we still saw new things - due to a combination of slow speed and grass-high viewing angle. The audio tour is informative and quite magical the way the GPS knew our location to within one-half-block.
The cars handle great and the brakes are very effective - reassuring when an SUV ran a red light on Van Ness as we were crossing. We're happy to hear four-stroke engines are coming to these vehicles. The lack of torque in the two-strokes could be dangerous and was annoying on any slope greater than 6 degrees. Plus, our car was very loud - as the GoCar staff member corroborated when we returned it.
We took the Parks tour in order to stay out of traffic, and due to engine noise couldn't hear the audio directions coming out of the Presidio - so missed a turn to the Palace of Fine Arts. Even though we hardly stopped during the drive, we still took 2-3/4 hours to get back to Hyde Street. We paid 39- more for the extra insurance and 45 minutes of time. Budget accordingly.
Dress as you would for snow sports. We froze our buns off.

Although driving the cars was fun and the tour was interesting, we encountered several problems. One of the cars GPS system stopped working shortly after we drove away, so 2 of the 4 in our group could not hear the tour and without the second car would have got lost. The second car's spedometer didn't work and the car continuously stalled out on hills and took some work to get restarted and moving again which was kind of scary with "real" cars all around. When we told the employees back at the rental location about our problems, they just said ok and didn't seem interested at all. Besides the mechanical problems, the idea is a good one and there are a lot of interesting, "off the beaten path" tidbits and sights to see on the tour.

GoCar is the world's first computer-guided storytelling car. The clever talking car navigates for you, but that's not all. As you drive, it points out the sights and tells you the stories that bring San Francisco to life.
You can stop along the way. You set your own pace. The car always knows where you are and you can park anywhere you want (motorcycle parking or car parking) for as long as you want, and as soon as you start to drive again, the car will begin to talk!
You don't have to stay on the guided tour. If there is a San Francisco sight you wish to see but is not yet included on the tour, just use the map they provide to navigate your own way through the city streets. You can even put a CD in the stereo and enjoy music along the way!
The GoCar will do 35-mph. Cars are approved for use on city streets, but not the bridges or freeways.
The 3-wheeled cars seat two and have a lockable trunk for your things. Their small size makes parking a breeze, and in San Francisco, that's a major bonus. They can even be parked in motorcycle parking.
Choose from more than 100 points of interest on your tour!
