Malian singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara brings her soulful, African-themed vocals and rhythms to the United States. Diawara's engaging, unique style incorporates funk, jazz and the music of her ancestral home in Mali's Wassoulou region. This signature fusion crafts an eclectic set that has charmed and delighted international audiences. In addition to her solo work, Diawara has collaborated with celebrated Malian musician Cheikh Tidiane Seck and appeared on the album Red Earth, a Grammy-winning Malian project by American jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater. Thanks Graham! I came to see what all the unruly children in my head were up to these past few years and you absolutely bared my soul up there. There was not one thing you said which I couldn't identify with and thanks for the affirmation I needed to hear (at 64), that I am not crazy and completely crazy at the same time. Loved it and love you for speaking the truth. Good on YOU!
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
