The people running the event, Stuart and Hayden, were so incredibly knowlegdeable and encouraging. I walked away with more knowledge than I expected to.Written on Oct 09 2009
After an hour of hard labor, I definitely have more respect for wine.
It was an incredibly fun and satisfying experience that I would gladly do again!
Just be prepared to get wet and dirty!

Really fun, informative and interesting experience. The teacher/guide Stewart is INCREDIBLE - really awesome speaker with a knack for explaining the difficult intricacies of the wine making process in an understandable and friendly way, not condescending or snobby at all. I only wish that there was a little more hands on action, it wasn't as "interactive" as I expected. But all in all a great time was had!Written on Oct 13 2009

Was a great learning experience. Lots of hands on, sorting and moving grapes. The guy we had, Stuart, was really great, full of excitement and information. And even though it's his profession (and prob. not ours or we wouldn't be there), talked w/ ease and paid individual attention to everyone.Written on Oct 13 2009
For the $5 (plus $2.50 for the service fee), it was WELL worth it. I brought an apron to wear although it didn't get too dirty. Also, the class I was in ran over prob. by a good 45 min. I didn't mind... there was just a lot to squeeze (pun intended!) into 1 1/2 hrs.

Description
If this is your first time making wine or if you are looking to share the winemaking experience with friends & family, harvest Crush Camps are great places to start.
Working a harvest "crush" is incredibly exciting, educational and extremely dirty. Make no mistake... winemaking is anything but glamorous. However, if you don't mind purple fingers, wine-splashed clothing and truly want to learn how top quality wines are produced, this immersive experience will remove the veil to winemaking Oz.
You work alongside cellar hands and winemakers on wines currently in production. You'll learn by doing as you sort, de-stem and crush grapes, punch down fermentation bins, view wines being pressed to barrel and participate in the sensory analysis of different grape varietals. It's the real deal.
What should you expect? Dodging of forklifts, splashing by water, grape skins in the hair, sticky fingers, a floor as slippery as a mid-winter Wisconsin pond and... a little bit of fun.
