It was great. my friend was in town and we got to hit all the major sites without having to worry about parking. The buses were extremely punctual.

The tour we took had 20 stops ranging through Union Sq., Civic Center, Financial District, Chinatown, North Beach, Haight/Ashbury, Golden Gate Park, Presidio, across the GG Bridge, back through Cow Hollow, Union Sq., Ferry Bldg. and back to Fisherman's Wharf.

You can get off anywhere along the way and the new buses come along every 20 minutes (from 9 to 5). Really suggest a weekend or holiday to avoid gridlocked traffic.

As locals, we found the tour guide's commentary to be lacking. We are not interested in where the guide's friends live or how high the rent is in each neighborhood. This particular guide was fairly new to SF and it showed. Absolutely no comments about the Presidio (where the city was founded)? Not a word about the robber barons of Nob Hill? No literary or film references whatsoever? There was definitely no emphasis on the rich history of the City. Oh, well.

Still, we enjoyed the ride. It's about two hours in length. You have a 24 hr. ticket, though, so can return the next day if you like. Might be fun to plan out a whole day--brunch in North Beach, walk across the GG Bridge, coffee on Union St., wine and hors d'ouerves at the Ferry Building---a whole day's worth of fun. Can't beat the price. If you want to sit up top, though, dress warmly (and bring a knit cap), as it's windy on that bridge!

This was my second tour of SF. The tour provided from this company had buses with live tour guides, and pre-recorded audio tours on other buses. The buses were very modern and very clean. Beware of some companies in SF, as they offer tours on older buses that are not well kept.

About the Ticket Supplier: Open Top Sightseeing San Francisco

There wasn't anything new about double-decker buses running up and down the streets of London, but it was curious to see these buses running up and down the streets of Paris. Thanks to Mr. Abdallah El-Azm, a clever and fun way to view one of the most romantic cities in the world made its debut in the 1980's.

What made Les Cars Rouge even more wonderful was the fact that the roof was chopped off, thus allowing guests to really see Paris! Eventually Les Cars Rouge expanded to Rome, Italy and Les Cars Rouge was on its way. It was a novel way to sightsee in Paris, France and Rome, Italy on a big red double-decker bus with an open top.

At the same time a couple of Scandinavian entrepreneurs were starting up the very same concept in Washington DC - Open Top Sightseeing. The two companies started a dialog and in 2006 eventually merging together under the Les Cars Rouge umbrella.

As the popularity of the company grew so did Les Cars Rouge locations. In 2007 Les Cars Rouge launched Open Top Sightseeing in San Francisco, California and in July of 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Les Cars Rouge plans to open more locations in the future. So if you see a big red double-decker bus in your neighborhood it just might be Open Top Sightseeing.
