Imagine going to go see a play where the actors have no idea what the show is about, who their characters are going to be, or any of the dialogue will be spoken. But then they get a title from the audience and it unfolds spontaneously right in front of your eyes…and you can’t believe it’s not scripted.
That’s what it’s like at a BATS Improv Family Drama show—secrets will be revealed, awful truths spoken and emotions will bubble over. And while it’s a drama, there are also plenty of laughs to be had.
The family drama format takes the form of a traditional three-act stage play—the story unfolds in real time, in one location, with each actor playing only one character. The improvisers know that a family of some kind is getting together for a meal, but the characters, plot, and dialogue will be created right there on the spot.
Note: While the story is completely improvised, if past Family Drama shows are any indication, the show may contain adult themes.
