Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra Plays Schumann's Cello Concerto

Full Price:
$25.00 - $67.00
Our Price:
$12.50 - $33.50

British violoncello soloist Steven Isserlis and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Nicholas McGegan, perform a trio of 19th-century works by that era's leading composers, highlighted by Robert Schumann's 1850 Cello Concerto. An award-winning cellist and educator, Isserlis is a noted expert on Schumann, and recently released a full disc featuring his works. Felix Mendelssohn's evocative overture from The Fair Melusine, based on a Goethe story, opens the program, while Brahms' Serenade No. 2 provides the stirring finale. The Philharmonia is now in its 31st season of entertaining Northern California audiences, and offers a discussion with Scott Foglesong prior to each performance. Learn More

I enjoyed this event much more than I thought I would. She is VERY talented. I loved the unique twist she used on contemporary and pop songs. I would see her again. My seat was great too - second row of the balcony - wonderful view.

City By The Bay is my favorite song of the moment thanks to this event. I really enjoyed her music, strange venue for it though, it needed to be at like Yoshi's.

Truth be told, we didn't last long enough to hear Jacqui because her now 77-year old voice teacher Faith Winthrop "sang" (warbled flat and spoke-sang a la William Shatner) as the opening act, starting at 8:20 and indulging herself until almost 9:00 p.m. (until intermission). We waited eagerly for Jacqui to sing until 9:20 and left without seeing or hearing her. NOT recommended.

Description

"This show and YDKJ are all about community," says Jacqui. Her teacher and friend of many years, Faith Winthrop, will open the show and her photographer, Thomas Heinser, will show his work in the lobby. Her sixth recording, "Smashed for the Holidays" won her a spot on the top-ten list of USA Today, Boston Globe, Washington Post, Jazziz and more. This is sure to be a great evening and one not to be missed. Visit www.jacquinaylor.com to listen to songs and write to the artist.

Faith Winthrop, a Bay Area treasure, is celebrating 55 years in the music business as well as her 77th birthday! This singer-songwriter has graced audiences around the world with her remarkably sensitive voice and a presence that is both regal and intimate. She vocally scales the heights of the great American songbook, and in her own original music, explores our human condition with wisdom and wit. Some of Faith's students include Al Jarreau, Holly Near, Paula West, LaVay Smith and Jacqui Naylor, with whom she has enjoyed a long friendship.
