The Jarrett Cherner Trio's music is rooted in the jazz piano tradition and driven by a blend of contemporary world influences. Latin rhythms propel the tunes and swing creates a foundation for plenty of improvisation and interplay between these three young musicians. Pianist/composer Jarrett Cherner is a San Francisco native who received an honorable mention from the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards 2005/2006. Bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Jorge Perez-Albela, on the other hand, both hail from Lima, Peru. The three players met and honed their instincts and skills in the vibrant jazz scene of Boston.

Pianist, composer, and educator Jarrett Cherner was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He moved to Boston in 1999 to attend Tufts University and subsequently the New England Conservatory of Music. In 2003 he graduated from Tufts with a B.S. in Mathematics, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and in 2004 he completed an Undergraduate Diploma in Jazz Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory. Primary teachers have included Danilo Pérez, Michael Cain, Frank Carlberg, John Lockwood, Warren Senders & Jerry Bergonzi.
In November of 2005 Jarrett recorded his first album as a leader, Burgeoning, which was released in May of 2006. The album features Jarrett’s original compositions and the talented team of Jorge Roeder on bass and Jorge Pérez-Albela on drums.
Cherner has toured nationally and internationally, performing at venues such as JazzZone (Lima, Perú), Ryles Jazz Club (Cambridge, MA), Jordan Hall (Boston, MA), Newport Blues Café (Newport, RI), Nectar’s (Burlington, VT), Zeitgeist Gallery (Cambridge, MA), and festivals including Jazz in Lima (Perú) and the Cape Cod Jazz Festival (MA). While living in Boston Cherner performed throughout the northeastern US, and in addition to his piano trio, he performed regularly on organ/keyboards with the 7-piece Chicken Slacks Soul Revue, the pop influenced Audrey Ryan Band, and Amphis Baena, an electro-jazz trio featuring sax, keyboards, and drums. Active as a composer as well as performer, he received an honorable mention from the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards 2005/2006.
<p> In January of 2006, facing yet another dawning winter in Boston, Jarrett relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where he is quickly becoming part of the vibrant West Coast jazz scene.

<p> Jarrett taught at Summerbridge San Francisco in 2002, the Talented and Gifted Hispanic summer program 2003 at UMass Boston, the JazzSchool's Summer Youth Program 2006 in Berkeley, and has been a faculty member at the Music Maker School in Acton, MA and Music’s Cool in Londonderry, NH.</p>
