Chart-topping San Francisco band Jefferson Starship present a series of shows at San Francisco's Rrazz Room. Founded in 1974 after the dissolution of '60s rock legends Jefferson Airplane, the band gained fame with their blend of psychedelic rock and socially conscious, science fiction-tinged lyrics. For these acoustic/electric concerts, celebrating the bands 200th live performance, founding members Paul Kantner and David Freiberg will be joined by Grammy-nominated lead vocalist Cathy Richardson, who starred on Broadway in the Janis Joplin musical Love, Janis, as well as a rotating lineup of San Francisco folk and rock veterans.

Smooth Soul at the Rrazz Room With the Dramatics

Full Price:
$50.00
Our Price:
$25.00

Enjoy some classic smooth soul and quiet storm R&B in the sophisticated and intimate setting of the Rrazz Room, one of San Francisco's premiere night clubs. In their early '70s heyday, the Dramatics were an anomaly: a Detroit singing group signed not to their famed hometown label, Motown, but to the legendary Southern soul label Stax/Volt. Their sound, as heard on hit singles like "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" and "In the Rain," straddles both worlds, combining the Temptations-like silky-smooth harmonies of Motown with the earthiness of Memphis-style soul. Still performing after more than 40 years, the group features veteran member L.J. Reynolds along with Willie Ford, Donald Albert and Winzell Kelly. Learn More

Venue is too small for a loud band like this. Sound was garbled. Venue is also poorly managed. They oversold the event -- not enough room for paying customers, and were not staffed well enough to handle seating people promptly. We had to stand in line for 1/2 an hour despite the fact that there were only about 20 people in line ahead of us.

This is not some lame nostalgia reunion. The band was alive, having fun, smokin', and hearing some of the old music was actually very refreshing. The vocalist, Cathy Richardson, is superb. I guess the gig is over, but I wish I'd brought earplugs, as I'm sensitive to volume. Still, a wonderful time.

Too small of room for such a large & loud, band. No one introduced the songs and no one introduced the band members.....they did not even try to connect with the audience.

Description

Jefferson Starship, created by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Jefferson Airplane founder Paul Kantner and David Freiberg, also a former Jefferson Airplane member and co-founder of the legendary Quicksilver Messenger Service - takes aim on yet another historic milestone in 2012. The band, descended from Jefferson Airplane – who performed at Monterey and Woodstock, at Altamont with the Rolling Stones, and shared the bill countless times with Grateful Dead & Janis Joplin, and whose music helped define a generation focused on civil rights, environmental awareness and anti-war activism – is set to perform their 2,000th concert since they first soared in 1974 … following the 1972 dissolution of Jefferson Airplane.

2011 proved another remarkable year for the stalwart, iconic band – whose diverse projects and performances included their first ever symphony engagement, broadcast across the U.S. on HDNET … their first foray into opera and electronica with Blade Runner Against The Empire extravaganzas, including a performance at Dragon-Con Atlanta – one of the world’s largest sci-fi & comic book conventions … along with their usual plethora of concerts at top shelf casinos like Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT and state fairs like The Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock. Also in 2011, the pioneering Artist marked 40 years since the release of their first album Blows Against the Empire, the first ever rock music recording nominated for literary science fiction’s prestigious Hugo Award.

Jefferson Starship kicks off 2012, their 41st year, with a remarkable ‘residency’ at The RRrazz Room, San Francisco’s Premier Nightclub. The special acoustic/electric themed performances shall feature a luminary assemblage, fronted by Grammy nominated lead vocalist Cathy Richardson, who starred on Broadway in Love, Janis. Joining Richardson, Freiberg & Kantner, and keyboardist/bassist Chris Smith, who joined the band in 1998 after years with The Supremes, will be a variety of guests.
