Jazz historian Mark Cantor pulls from his vast collection of more than 2,500 music-related movie clips for this screening series, titled Giants of Jazz on Film. He'll be on hand to introduce and discuss rare archival footage of Golden Age jazz legends ranging from Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald to Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman and many, many more. Each evening revolves around a different theme, from clips captured at the famed Cotton Club to a look at Broadway and Hollywood's influence on jazz, and includes a light buffet and wine. Khaled Hosseini is a wonderful writer, and his graciousness and profound humanity came through in the talk and reading. Nicely hosted, lovely venue. I did find several of the ushers to be a bit invasive and aggressive, so that is my only complaint (and why I am giving 4 rather than 5 stars).
Quotes & Highlights
“Hosseini gives us a vivid and engaging story that reminds us how long his people have been struggling to triumph over the forces of violence – forces that continue to threaten them even today.” —New York Times Book Review
“[Love] is the emotion – subterranean, powerful, beautiful, illicit, and infinitely patient – that suffuses the pages.” – O, The Oprah Magazine
The Goldstar ticket price does not include a copy of Hosseini’s new book.
