The violently funny, perpetually soused duo Kiki and Herb: Alive From Broadway takes San Francisco this summer. No one is safe from the biting tongue of the ungracefully aging "boozy chanteusie," Kiki, and her long-suffering accompanist, Herb, in the celebrated lounge act that sold out Carnegie Hall and brought Broadway to its knees. Rowdily reinterpreting music from Scissor Sisters, The Cure, Public Enemy, and more, Kiki and Herb "blur the line of incoherent and brilliant." (Village Voice)

Simon and Janine are sent on an unexpected journey to the war-torn Middle East after their mother, who for years had remained silent, leaves them post-mortem letters with clues to the family's mysterious past. Their quest to unravel their origins leads them in search of a father and brother whose existence was previously unknown to them. Adapted into the Oscar-nominated film, Incendies, and translated into a dozen languages in over 100 productions worldwide, Scorched makes its West Coast debut at American Conservatory Theatre. The A.C.T. production features David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck) as bumbling notary public Alphonse Lebel, who acts as a guide to the two twins in their search. Learn More

If you want to witness pure brilliance and ecceptional raw talent: you have to see this tour de force. I haven't been so mesmerized by a performance in years. You'll bust a gut and be touched by the sentiment that rises from the brash and flashy production. Kiki and Herb are beyond entertaining!!!

At 120 minutes with no intermission, it just ran a bit too long. The show was enjoyable but some of the bits needed to be cut down.

It had its moments, but they were far too few. It's hard to believe this show won a Tony nomination.

Justin Bond and Kenny Mellman as Kiki & Herb are twisted, hilarious, and brilliant!

It's clever of them to play old characters. Not only so that their act can go on and on as they age, but also because of Justin Bond's voice. As a cabaret singer, I don't believe Mr. Bond's voice would be enough if he performed as himself. But as an old woman, it's perfect! It's low and raspy like that of a woman who has been smoking and drinking for years.

Behind all of the politically incorrect humor (and there's LOTS of it!), there IS an important message. Sometimes you've got to get ugly to get to the truth. (That's not the message! It's just a description of how Kiki & Herb work!)

I would highly recommend Kiki & Herb to my friends!

Quotes & Highlights

  • "Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway are alive with a capital A. Irresistibly full-bodied art and perverse showbiz genius. A magnified cabaret concert that has the heat and dazzle of great balls of fire." --The New York Times

Description

Not satisfied simply doing endless versions of cabaret standards, Kiki & Herb display their unique musical prowess reinventing popular songs by great 20th- and 21st-century artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Joni Mitchell, Styx, Pat Benatar, Radiohead, Nirvana, Bonnie Tyler, and Britney Spears. Kiki DuRane is a brash, boozy, septuagenarian chanteuse. She's never much cared what other people think, but she's always willing to say what she thinks. Onstage with her stalwart accompanist and only living friend Herb, Kiki somehow stumbles her way through a selection of songs, punctuated by political rants, searching social commentary, and recollections of a lifetime filled with unforgettable memories.
