Improv = spontaneous cleverness. I loved this company's Bollywood Puppet show last year - it was clever and spontaneous. This was NOT clever, and so much of the performance appeared to be using practiced interactions/techniques and merely squeezing in words that matched the audience input. Very disappointing.Written on Nov 30 2009

This was a fun event. I went with my bestie, who is big into improv. I'm not normally a huge fan of improv comedy, particularly long form, but this was a good troupe.Written on Nov 29 2009
It's a musical, in case you can't tell. This time around, it was about Mercer Island, Washington, home of the 400 person marching band and gorilla mascot.
To crib some lines from my bestie's review:
"We got to see the travails of two Mercer Island teenagers dealing with the stress of working at the Lion's Club Christmas tree lot and Casa D's, the social ostracism that comes with *not* being in the band, even if they secretly are the Mercer Island Gorilla, and two overly eager engineering parents. And questionably the best moment of the night, a marching band number where the "band director" kept asking the other 5 cast members to change formations long past the number of formations you can get from 5 people.
And would you believe it, the brother and sister resolved their differences and marched together as two gorillas at the Christmas parade. It even snowed."
The standout members of the cast were Trish Tillman and Scott Keck. At times, the ensemble was not quite in tune with each other, both in the literal singing sense and the improvisational sense. You get six members of a ten member company putting on your show, so it's a tad touch and go about how well that 60% meshes.
I wouldn't go again, but I'm very glad I went. My bestie is trolling our social group for a second showing.

We were at the Saturday matinee and enjoyed the show. The way they worked in the audience input into the show was funny. The only thing was they did run some of the material into the ground. I guess the title was a little misleading, as I thought it would be more holiday themed. But, in the end, we had a good time and the cast was very talented.Written on Dec 07 2009
