The Marsh San Francisco (San Francisco, CA)
Actor-comedian Kenny Yun brings his autobiographical one-man show to The Marsh. In the funny and poignant Lettuce Town Lies, Yun recounts his adolescence in Salinas, where the culture shock of moving to an all-white, rural town was just one of many challenges facing an Asian teenager who was also discovering that he was gay.

Great performance by Kenny! Funny, fast-moving, poignant at times. I hadn't been to The Marsh in a few years and remember that this place is hit or miss. After this performance I vow to go to my neighborhood Marsh every 3 months now!

Great show! It's an unusually rich mix .... ethnic family story, '80s teen period piece, growing-up-gay-in-a-farmtown tale and all-around beautiful coming-of-age story .... plus funky theatrical diversions into whacked-out Greek, Biblical and even Korean mythology.
It's both very funny and deeply moving. It just works -- theatrically inventive but also heartfelt and universal.
Yun has the chops of both a stand-up comedian addressing the audience and a mercurial quick-change artist -- doing scenes with several characters where you forget you're watching a single actor.

This was a heart-felt, deeply personal one man show. Kenny embodied the multiple characters well, although I was occasionally confused about who was speaking. He brought terrific emotionality, especially in his visit to Korea and the life-changing encounter there. The 80's music was fun. Still needs some editing, but a worthwhile evening, especially for the money.

He's Gay. He's Asian. He's coming of age in Lettucetown, aka Salinas. If that’s not bad enough, he's got a crush on a hick. If that’s not bad enough, his friends think fun is blowing up a field of lettuce. If that’s not bad enough, he has to sneak to the high school bathroom to buy drugs and Donna Summer records. Adolescence! It's fun, it's lies. In Lettucetown.
