Liaisons: Pianist Anthony de Mare and Contemporary Composers Reinterpret Sondheim
Acclaimed pianist Anthony de Mare has invited thirty-six of the world's foremost contemporary composers to create a solo piano piece based on a favorite song from legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. Composers such as Mason Bates, Derek Bermel, Kenji Bunch, William Bolcom, Ricky Ian Gordon and David Shire were up to the challenge, and the result is Liaisons, an opportunity to experience the genius of Sondheim separated from his lyrics in such classics as "The Ladies who Lunch" and "The Worst Pies in London." At the piano is de Mare who the New York Times claims has "transformed the recital format."
