Her dancers are always very talented and it is amazing what they can do. I was hoping for more variety in this performance. All of the movements/sections seemed very similar. I still enjoyed it though.

We had few and far between moments of appreciation for this show. While we admired the effort and physical strength it took to perform the dance -- the choreography, story telling, conclusion of the acts were a complete miss. The descriptions provided at the beginning of the performance did not reflect the dances at all. If you were to ever write such a description or be asked to describe your inspiration -- and be evaluated for it -- you'd get an F, 'whatever', 'that's BS'. My husband fell asleep. I wanted to leave. Sorry, this performance still needs a lot of work and 'rethinking'......

Beautiful dancers but repetitive choreography in the first piece that left me bored after the first 10 minutes. The second piece was more interesting with nice partnering but it was strangely short in length. Different use of sound to accompany the dancers which sometimes works with dance, but not so much in this case. The movement didn't work with the sound for me and if something more melodic was used, maybe the effect would've made more sense. The theater was about half full, and of those half, they looked like they received comp tickets (looked like dancers in the audience). Still, i am glad i got to see an evening of dance.

The performance was interesting and we had better seats than we had purchased, so was happy. I liked the second dance a bit better than the first, but both were good. The sound effects in the first one were somewhat repetitive and so were the dance movements, but overall, enjoyable.

Description

The vibrant contemporary dance company Liss Fain Dance, presents two exciting world premieres: How It Ends and Speak of Familiar Things, with a commissioned score by Bay Area composer Dan Wool.  Visceral, emotional and compelling, Liss Fain Dance combines the precision of ballet with the emotion and abstract physicality of contemporary dance.

About the Ticket Supplier: Liss Fain Dance

Visceral. Emotional. Compelling. Liss Fain Dance is renowned for its innovative blending of fast-paced modern dance with the clarity and vertical lift of ballet. Unlike a mixed repertory company, Liss Fain's concerts have a single construct as a unifying factor in all the evening's pieces. Through movement that is technically and structurally precise and through careful juxtaposition of individuals and groups, Ms. Fain creates the forcefulness and complexity of an emotional environment. Exemplifying the style of European contemporary dance, her work incorporates ballet's kinetic precision with the flow and movement experimentation of modern dance.

Since it's founding in 1988, Liss Fain Dance has produced vibrant, abstract pieces that are at the forefront of new approaches to integrated collaborative performances. The nine member, San Francisco based contemporary dance company performs dances that are about "shape, expression, flow and musicality."
