British violoncello soloist Steven Isserlis and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Nicholas McGegan, perform a trio of 19th-century works by that era's leading composers, highlighted by Robert Schumann's 1850 Cello Concerto. An award-winning cellist and educator, Isserlis is a noted expert on Schumann, and recently released a full disc featuring his works. Felix Mendelssohn's evocative overture from The Fair Melusine, based on a Goethe story, opens the program, while Brahms' Serenade No. 2 provides the stirring finale. The Philharmonia is now in its 31st season of entertaining Northern California audiences, and offers a discussion with Scott Foglesong prior to each performance. Learn More

Good venue - we got there early enough to get really great seats so it felt very intimate. Marc Maron was a nice surprise - we hadn't even heard of him but found him as funny if not funnier than Lewis Black. It was great to see Lewis Black in a different kind of setting, relaxed and chatting with a friend, and especially sweet to see him laughing when Marc Maron cracked him up. As a bonus, I got my book autographed and a picture of myself with the author.

What a great combination on stage. Marc and Lewis had me laughing for the full 90 minutes. The format of an "interview" was really cool too, because it was basically just watching two really funny people trade stories. Anyways, wish you were there! I would definitely attend an event like this again.

We did not know what to expect but we liked Lewis Black and enjoyed his comedy/commentaries and the price was right so we went.
We had a great time. It was like eavesdropping on two very funny, comfortable friends talking to each other and saying what they wanted to say.
Marc Maron was just as fabulous and we cannot wait to read their books.

Loved Lewis Black and his softer side that you don't get to see with his stand-up routine, and noted his (unexpected) generosity in allowing Marc to upstage him. Black has got to have the most infectious laugh in the universe.

Let him seize the stage, solo, and by all means, make him laugh.

More Information About Litquake: Lewis Black in Conversation with Marc Maron

Description

Litquake proudly presents comedian Lewis Black live and uncensored! This will be his only Bay Area appearance featuring his bestselling book, Me of Little Faith, which has just been released in paperback. In a freewheeling onstage conversation, Black and comedian/radio host Marc Maron will gleefully dissect politics, religion, and other American foolishness. Short audience Q&A and booksigning to follow.

Stand-up comedian, actor, and author Lewis Black is a passionate performer who is more pissed-off optimist than mean-spirited curmudgeon, prompting comparisons to Mort Sahl, Lenny Bruce, and George Carlin. His “Back in Black” has become one of the most popular and longest running segments on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” and he continues to appear on HBO, Comedy Central, and Lewis’ Black’s The Root of All Evil. Lewis has also written two bestselling books, Nothing’s Sacred (Simon and Schuster, 2005) and Me of Little Faith (Riverhead Books, 2008), as well as more than 40 plays. He is dedicated to many charitable organizations, including the 52nd Street Project, the Rusty Magee Clinic for Families and Health, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Autism Speaks. In his leisure time, Lewis likes to play golf, even though golf hates him.

Marc Maron is a standup comic, author, actor, radio personality, feral cat wrangler, and a Jew. His recent accomplishments include accidentally running over a large possum in his driveway then crying, and figuring out how to upload videos to his Facebook site. His book based on the solo show, The Jerusalem Syndrome: My Life as a Reluctant Messiah, is out of print and overpriced by vendors who think it might have some collectors value. He’s been on HBO, Conan, Letterman, Air America Radio,  two Comedy Central Presents specials, and hosts a daily internet video show. His one-man show, Scorching the Earth, will be premiering at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal this summer. His third CD, Final Engagement, was released last month.
