The headliner was pretty spectcularly un-funny, but the five warm-up comics were great. It's a pretty cool venue (though a bit stuffy - and go to the restroom BEFORE you come to this show - the restrooms here are DISGUSTING).Written on Aug 10 2009

A great night, because the Purple Onion is an absolutely intimate vegetable, I mean venue, in which to experience Will Franken and other comedians. And Will left his audience in awe, which is the way of things. We also learned that Will is living in SF again, which I hope means we'll see more of him and his strange wonderfulness at the Purple Onion. Of course, if you don't want to laugh hard (and sometime at your own thinking) . . . don't go.Written on Oct 16 2009

Description
Top San Francisco-area comics will take the stage at the historic and intimate Purple Onion cellar nightclub. Each installment of the show features four of the best and brightest Bay Area comedians plus one top-notch headliner performing hilariously edgy comedy.
October 23 & 24, 2009: Jason Downs
Nationally touring comedian Jason Downs shares his dramatic and outrageous stories with the audience. A unique likeability allows Jason to confess his greatest flaws in an original, aggressive, and hilarious act. A good heart and a bad mouth, he tells his story of a know-it-all who knows nothing. Recently Jason Downs was featured on NBCs "Last Comic Standing", is in the midst of a national comedy tour, and is co-producer of a new series of stand up comedy shows, featuring the edgiest comics in the business today: Lewd and Crude Comedy. Featuring Jason Rogers and Kevin Munroe. Hosted by Jill Bourque.
October 30, 2009: Liz Grant
At seventeen, Liz made her stage debut at Tommy T's in San Leandro, California with comedian Tom Rhodes. She is the winner of The Brian Regan Impression Contest in 2008 and was a writer for George Carlin's Laugh.com. For three years she was a tour guide in San Francisco's North Beach conducting a tour she co-wrote called Where's The F'ing Beach in North Beach? Liz recently revealed her comedic hilariousness in her one woman stand up comedy show Deja Wince: Lessons From A Failed Relationship Expert which ran for twenty three weeks in San Francisco. Featuring Anthony Hill. Hosted by Jill Bourque.
November 13 & 14, 2009: Hasan Minhaj CD Taping
Hasan Minhaj is a stand up comedian based in Los Angeles, California. He has performed at the Laugh Factory, Cobbs, Punchline, Improv, Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and countless other venues across the nation. In the fall of 2006 he was a founding member of Gridiron Gang, his university’s first standup comedy/sketch trio. He has been featured as an Effinfunny.com ‘Comic to Watch in 2008′, and was a two time finalist in NBC’s Standup for Diversity in 2007 and 2008.
As a writer, producer, and director Hasan won top honors at AT&T’s Campus Moviefest, the world’s largest student film festival, for his film ‘Jon Archer: Red, White, and Blood’.
