Brian Copeland's New Solo Show The Waiting Period at The Marsh
- Full Price:
- $25.00
- Our Price:
- $12.50
The Marsh presents a workshop performance of Brian Copeland's new solo show, The Waiting Period. Copeland, a multi-talented actor, playwright, author and talk show host, has basked in the glow of both public and critical acclaim for nearly a decade. However, like many other well-known figures, he suffers from debilitating bouts of depression. This show gives an unrelenting look at a ten-day period in his life: the mandatory waiting period before he could lay hands on a new gun with which he planned to commit suicide. Even in the throes of such tragic plans, though, his sense of humor does not desert him (how much should he spend on the gun?), and in fact protects him from the grim reality of his intention. There is laughter in the darkness. Interspersed with interviews with other people suffering from depression, the play also offers outsiders an insider's view, thereby expanding the audience's understanding and, hopefully, humanity. This is a good show for kids from 4-10. Older kids will probably find it silly. I thought it was cute, however I do agree with the other member who said it didn't have a very coherent story line. I wouldn't go to see it again.Written on Dec 29 2008

I liked it. Creative puppetry and imagery. Very small theater and center seats were good, although my son had to strain his neck to see even though we were in the second row. The kids in the audience laughed a lot. Weaknesses: Not a very coherent storyline. Also, in the after-show discussion, the actors didn't come up with any dialogue for the puppets they made (seemed uncreative) and didn't seem to be having fun with each other. I'm upset about what I read about the ticket prices in other reviews.Written on Dec 15 2008

Very short, also repetitive. Even the small children were bored after about 15 minutes. Also, ticket prices are very weird. We paid $25 on Goldstar for supposed half-price tix but actually paid more than anyone else in the room. At the door tix were $10.Written on Dec 15 2008

very entertaining but very short. We came from the east bay and our travel time was longer than the play.Written on Dec 08 2008
theatre seating was alittle strange; lots of single seats, and my friend and I were asked to seat separately.

Description
A wad of newsprint, a sweatshirt, a creature made from PVC pipe tubes -- performance alchemist Liebe Wetzel and her ensemble release the sweet, sad, naive, and lustful beings inside "ordinary" objects. In the absence of language, her puppets speak universal truths.
Liebe Wetzel, Artistic Director, is the artist formerly known as Too Too Tomato, and has performed in a variety of incarnations including puppeteer, performance artist, mime, stilt walker, and clown at a staggering number of fairs, festivals, and theaters throughout the West Coast. She is a graduate of the Dell Arte School of Physical Theatre, and has trained with Keith Johnstone at the Loose Moose Theatre in Canada. She holds a BA in Biology and Biochemistry from Rice University. In 1999 Wetzel debuted her now award-winning style of ordinary object puppetry with a collection of vignettes for adults, Naked Foam and Objects in Predicaments, written and performed by Wetzel with the assistance of director Jeff Raz on comediturgy and the helping hands of a small ensemble of manipulators.
