Smooth Soul at the Rrazz Room With the Dramatics

Full Price:
$50.00
Our Price:
$25.00

Enjoy some classic smooth soul and quiet storm R&B in the sophisticated and intimate setting of the Rrazz Room, one of San Francisco's premiere night clubs. In their early '70s heyday, the Dramatics were an anomaly: a Detroit singing group signed not to their famed hometown label, Motown, but to the legendary Southern soul label Stax/Volt. Their sound, as heard on hit singles like "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" and "In the Rain," straddles both worlds, combining the Temptations-like silky-smooth harmonies of Motown with the earthiness of Memphis-style soul. Still performing after more than 40 years, the group features veteran member L.J. Reynolds along with Willie Ford, Donald Albert and Winzell Kelly. Learn More

This show had such a tantalizing idea: blues and tango! The performers were unquestionably good... I just wished that there had been a little explanation of the fusion of these musical genres so I could have appreciated more what they were creating.
As always the Rrazz Room was terrific: not a bad seat anywhere in the house!

For anyone interested in the music of Argentina and South America, they should attend an evening with Maria Volonte. Her songs and arrangements evoke the emotions of the Tango with her impeccable vocals, accompanied by the soulful harmonica backup by Kevin Footer. An event not to be missed.

Really liked the venue. The performance would have been more compelling if there had been less commentary between each song.

Description

Maria Volonte is renowned for her intense live performances, exquisite musicality, charismatic stage presence and deep Latin sensuality. Following her sold-out performance at the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Maria has become a regular at the Rrazz Room at Hotel Nikko. Together with harmonica player Kevin Carrel Footer, Maria will heat up the foggy San Francisco night! Winner of the Gardel Prize, a Latin Grammy nominee and member of the Tango Hall of Fame, Maria Volonte is an Argentine singer, guitarist and composer celebrated for the intense passion and beauty of her songs as well as for her charisma and sensuality on stage. After conquering the world of tango with numerous award-winning CDs, Maria’s new work explores the fusion of Argentine music with other Latin American rhythms, jazz and the blues.

A tireless adventurer in music as in life, Maria lives year-round on the road, criss-crossing the globe to bring her music to new audiences. Maria has released 8 award-winning CDs. Her latest album Maria Volonte: Portrait is available worldwide on the Network/Harmonia Mundi label. The Blue Tango show is Maria’s exploration of the deep spiritual bond that joins tango and the blues, as two genres steeped in sin, born in brothels, censored yet always resurgent and speaking directly to our souls. Performing together with harmonica player Kevin Carrel Footer, Maria’s guitar and vocals fill the stage with the illicit pleasures of tango while Kevin’s blues harmonica echoes with the distant whine of the solitary blues soul.
