San Francisco Performances presents mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe in an American Song program at Herbst Theatre. One of the most charismatic and highly-respected artists of her generation, Blythe is regularly revered for delivering dramatic performances and moving audiences. Recitals in particular, for Blythe, are when "the relationship with the audience is symbiotic, and fostering that connection has become an integral part of my performances." Blythe will perform works by James Legg, Samuel Barber and songs of Tin Pan Alley for her Bay Area recital debut, accompanied by pianist Warren Jones. A particularly compelling part of the program will be Blythe's performance of Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson by the late composer James Legg, who had intended the work to be sung by Blythe specifically. Soon after Legg's untimely death, the piece was given to Blythe by Legg's partner and Artistic Director Emeritus of The Old Globe, Jack O'Brien. Blythe premiered the piece recently in recital with Warren Jones at Town Hall in New York City.
