Members Who Went Said:definitely the way to enjoy the symphony.
Anonymous Member Absolutely awesome performance of a little-recognized Brahm's concerto. Three encores!!
Diana The pre-concert concert was great! Since there was not a full audience yet, we were invited to sit in the front rows! The concert itself was great, the pianist was of course only in the last piece, the Piano Serenade 1. My only disappointment was that at the end of the concert, after 4 rounds of applauses Mr. Bronfman would still not play anything extra. |

More Details About This Event: Artists and Program:
Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor Yefim Bronfman, piano Brahms: Variations on a Theme by Haydn Brahms: Serenade No. 2 Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1 Brahms poured his conflicted obsession with Clara Schumann into his Piano Concerto No. 1. This work pits piano against orchestra, and the soloist must convince us that they are equal protagonists. Yefim Bronfman was made for that assignment. The early Serenade, inspired as much by classical tradition as by folk song, is alive with the spirits of Mozart and Haydn. Minus violins, string colors are a burnished veil from which the winds emerge in full glow. In his Haydn Variations, Brahms returned to the orchestra for the first time in a decade. Meet Yefim Bronfman for an exclusive CD signing immediately following the concert at the Symphony store in the lobby. Pre-Concert Chamber Music at 7pm. About San Francisco Symphony: The San Francisco Symphony and Michael Tilson Thomas present more than 220 concerts each year from September through July in a variety of genres, with SFS musicians performing classical concerts, holiday favorites, summer pops events, free outdoor concerts, special series for families and children, plus presentations of visiting guest artists and orchestras from around the globe. The San Francisco Symphony also takes its unique style to audiences world-wide, touring nationally and internationally every year. The SFS is currently recording all the Mahler symphonies on its own media label and has recently launched Keeping Score, a national, multi-year, multi-media project bringing classical music to millions of Americans via TV, radio, the Internet and more. About Davies Symphony Hall: Completed in September, 1980 after more than two years of construction, Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall is the home of the San Francisco Symphony.During the summer of 1992, Davies Symphony Hall underwent a major renovation, enhancing its acoustics to ensure an even better musical experience, and making an already stunning interior more beautiful still. The San Francisco Symphony's home owes its name to the efforts and perseverance of Mrs. Louise M. Davies, the largest individual contributor to the building. |
