Artistic director and principal conductor of the famed Royal Philharmonic, guest maestro Charles Dutoit wields the baton for another of the world's most acclaimed orchestras, the San Francisco Symphony. He'll lead a performance featuring pianist Kirill Gerstein on the graceful Piano Concerto No. 2 by Beethoven, which the composer is said to have devised early in his career to show off his own skill at the keyboard. Contrasting and closing out the concert is Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 10. It's often considered the composer's greatest work -- and one of the 20th century's most powerful symphonies, with influences ranging from Gustav Mahler to Russian poet Alexander Pushkin and Cossack folk dances.
