Ah, summer at the symphony, when folks bring their picnic barbecue manners to the concert hall! From the couple who cut in line in front of me at will call, pretending to speak only French, to the woman behind me who kicked off her shoes and propped her feet up on the back of the chair next to me--was that an invitation? Was it rude of me to ignnore her shamelessness?--to the huge number of latecomers that had to be seated during The Four Seasons, not at intermission mind you, but during--and despite the several requests made over the public address, cell phones going off here and there throughout the programme... Oh, and the music was quite lovely too.

Somehow we forget how wonderful it is to go listen to the symphony and always wish we'd go more often. Wonderful to hear the classics, and the variety of Mozart and Tchaikovsky on the program in addition to Vivaldi, was a treat. Kind of seating in the bleachers with hyper teens but sound is brilliant anywhere at Davies and can't beat the price.

The performers did an excellent job and the audience we equally appreciative, often inappropriately between movements, but at least the performers knew they were appreciated! Barantschik's instrument was magical.

Magical...utterly magical! Love, love, love The Four Seasons...heard it live once in a 6th century church in Venice with an audience of about 200. Now that was pure magic. When I hear this piece live I am transported back to that Venetian evening. I also liked the Serenade for Strings better than the Divertimento.

A wonderful evening. The small talented group of musicians filled Davies Symphony Hall with the beautiful sound of serenity.

The Vivaldi portion of the concert was so-so. The Mozart portion of the concert was played with much greater acumen.

Vivaldi's Four Seasons is a great ensemble of orchestral works. And last night's performance by the SF Symphony was wonderful.

The performance was outstanding, I highly recommend it. Vivaldi's four seasons was beautifully played by this master of the violin.
      Thank you.

The San Francisco Symphony can do no wrong so it was an enjoyable evening. Since I am a musical "clean slate," I can't go on about how this movement or that movement was played. However, I learned that the Concertmaster, Alexander Barantschik, who was also the lead violinist during the Vivaldi set, uses a 1742 violin once used by Jascha Heifetz and only allowed to be used "by artists worthy of the instrument and its legacy." To know I was witnessing a performance by someone that good was really a treasured moment.
It also introduced me to First Tier seating so I can now make better decisions when purchasing tickets to regular season events.

the concert was excellent. the orchestra was particularly wonderful doing tchaikowsky's 'serenade for strings'. my one criticism would be for the audience.....very unsophisticated....applauding at very inappropriate times. even barancheck (sp?) looked horrified a couple times.
thanks goldstar for providing us this opportunity at a reasonable price.

Excellent performance and great seats, tho I actually preferred the Tchaikovsky piece vs. the more familiar Vivaldi. A real treat to hear Barantschik throughout...

Decent performance. But seemed a good high school group could do as well in parts. Yet at times they were excellent!

The concert was a delight. The second Tier HH tickets we received in the mail were not good, as both HH and JJ tickets require the negotiation of a long set of stairs. We had to exchange them at the box office, which would only have been a problem had we gone late. If you have trouble climbing stairs, you either need to exchange these tickets when arriving at Davies, or you need to buy First Tier or other area tickets.
