The New Stars of the Purple Onion showcase series returns after its smash successes in September and December, for three consecutive Fridays starting May 6, for its Spring edition. The New Stars presents the latest lineup in jazz, cabaret and Broadway-style vocal talent, stepping to the mic for their chance in the spotlight.

The New Stars showcase series is hosted by those sassy, transplanted New Yorker divas, The Kitchenettes - Lua Hadar and Linda Kosut, and includes performances by The Kitchenettes, along with the Crown Prince of San Francisco cabaret, Barry Lloyd, musical director.
May 6: Bay Area musical theater personality Coley Grundman, mother and daughter Broadway powerhouses Becky and Brie Jones, jazz crooner Mark Johnson, and Deborah Taboloff, an effervescent international performer of musical theater and jazz.
May 13: The Living Dolls - Diane Merlino and Liz Matthews - with pianist-crooner Joseph Magdalena, joined by Bruce Phillips, master of the bawdy lyric, Marie Clark singing the blues and more, Broadway voice Jennifer Fagundes with Jenny Snyder on piano, and former a cappella singer Suzanna Smith now bringing her voice to swing.
May 20: Young jazz talent, Katie Catinella, the ethereal voice of Terri Kelly, the humorous and Sinatra-inspired Pasquale Franzese, and the jazz stylings of both Biaja Solomon and Paul Arleo. Gary Neuman accompanies both Terri and Pasquale.
A legendary North Beach nightspot, the Purple Onion launched the careers of The Smothers Brothers, The Kingston Trio, and Phyllis Diller, among others.
