Bellini's Passionate Opera Norma Presented by Pocket Opera
Considered the epitome of the bel canto opera style, Vincenzo Bellini's Norma is known for its beautiful and challenging music, and has been a vehicle for supremely talented sopranos since its debut in 1831. The tragic plot follows Norma, the awe-inspiring leader of her people in an occupied country. Although Norma's role as high priestess demands a strict vow of celibacy, she has violated that code by falling in love with the leader of the occupying army, leading a double life to conceal her secret. Elin Carlson plays the part of Norma in Pocket Opera's production, tackling the demanding vocals of "Casta diva."
