Liberal-leaning artist Nicole and her conservative Republican boyfriend Mark are struggling to make their relationship work in the Age of the Emoticon. Writer-director Allen Barton's world-premiere drama takes aim at our social media-obsessed society while highlighting in horrifying detail the decline of human communication. Listen, relate and laugh at this talented cast of passionate and flawed characters, as one rants about the growing infrequency of face-to-face interaction and another complains about being unfriended on MySpace. Overall, two thumbs up. A sensitive and compassionate play about a modern day couple's struggle with new families and old friends. Daring performances with a sexy cast, Gabrielle Patacsil, Leah Shesky and Andy Strong. And a realistic performance from 12-year-old Nandi Drayton as the center of a world close to falling apart. Herman's script was engaging and McNulty's direction was clean and clever. PianoFight took a good risk with this production. Also the Alcove theatre is comfortable and unique. Sit back, drink a beer and watch the drama unfold.
