Alicia is a natural stage presence. She invites you into her life with warm self-effacing humor and so naturally and openly that you feel you are sharing her experiences. Her performance is so alive and full of insight. We laugh at her and at ourselves.Written on Dec 20 2010

This was a fun staged reading of Alicia's new show. We saw part three of a 3 week progression of trying out her new material. I wish I saw part one & two,but that didn't matter otherwise, because I thought she was quite funny and charismatic. Since this was a work in progress, I understood why some things didn't get the laughs and others got plenty. My hubby thought maybe her timing needs work, but I explained that she is working on her new piece and it's not supposed to be a polished final performance yet.He wants to see Broadway level stuff every time we go to the theatre, so perhaps I should just go other types of shows on my own. We saw her perform "Eat,Pray, Laugh" last year, and at least I thought she was delightful in that show, as well as her previous Fringe SF show in 2008. I would go to see Alicia's finished work on this new show, maybe next year's Fringe festival? P.S. - Kathy ? opened with her comedy act, whom is directing Alicia's new show too, and she was hilarious as well. It was fun and I'd go again but leave my hubby at home next time!Written on Dec 20 2010

Description
This brand new show tackles America's obsession with L-O-V-E, and takes Alicia's love life as the prime example of this obsession. In the immortal words of Robert Palmer, "You might as well face it, you're addicted to love." In Alicia's most revealing and most comedic show yet, her material ranges from raunchy to revelatory, judgmental to judicious, slutty to sacred, Alicia tells it like it is. (For her.) You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll identify... maybe find yourself a little turned on (but hopefully not while crying), and hopefully, you'll leave a little more enlightened. This is a workshop performance/staged reading, and you'll get to see the work in a rare, raw, and exciting form. Plus, each week will feature a different segment of the show, so if you come all three weeks, you'll see pretty much a different show each time.
Winner of the United Solo Theatre Festival's Best Storyteller Award in 2010 and San Francisco Fringe Festival's Best of the Fringe and Best Female Solo Performer Awards in 2008, Alicia's turn to solo performance three years ago has gone well. She performed standup comedy for over a decade, sharing the stage with talented performers such as Bill Santiago, Eugene Mirman, Arj Barker, W. Kamau Bell, Vanda Mikoloski, and Amy Stiller. Alicia has been a regular at Cobb's Comedy Club and The Punch Line in San Francisco, and has performed at The Improv and the Knitting Factory in Hollywood, as well as Gotham Comedy Club and Ha in New York and Gut Rocking Comedy in London as well as shows in Bombay and Chennai in a tour of her second solo show Eat, Pray, Laugh! She also has published a hilarious self-help book, Getting Sh*t Done, hosted a live talkshow on Pirate Cat Radio, and toured nationally with the audience participation circus she created, The Latest Show on Earth. One Life Stand is her third solo show.
