Barbra and Frank: The Concert That Never Was

Full Price:

It's a match made in Vegas! Two of the most impressive celebrity impersonators in the business -- Sharon Owens and Sebastian Anzaldo -- pay tribute to two of music's greatest icons -- Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra. In real life, Streisand and Sinatra never performed live together, but in this show, Owens and Anzaldo sing some of the most most memorable music ever written and exchange banter so spot-on to their characters that you feel like you've been transported to the celebrity concert you always wished had happened. For her amazing Streisand impersonation, Owens was winner of the Fox TV show Performing As..., which led to a series of TV appearances and a long run at the Las Vegas Riviera, where she headlined with Anzaldo in Barbra and Frank, The Concert That Never Was. Anzaldo, who has the voice, looks and mannerisms of 'Ol Blue Eyes, was one of the top acts on the Vegas circuit for eight years with his band Wild Life before joining forces with Owens for Barbra and Frank. This was a fabulous event. It was small and very intimate. The service was great and friendly. The performance was fantastic. Pete Escovedo actually greeted everyone after and signed cd's and memorabilia. I would definitely return.

The music was good but the 8:00 show was much too short. Started quite late and ended early apparently with the 10:00 show in mind. For the price plus two cover drinks, not value I would recommend.

Description

Pete Escovedo has been at the forefront of Latin jazz for three decades. In fact, his name has become more or less synomous with Latin jazz in the Bay Area. His first professional engagement was as the opening act for the Count Basie Orchestra at San Francisco’s Downbeat Club. Originally inspired especially by the Latin percussion great Tito Puente, Pete formed the Escovedo Brothers Latin Jazz Sextet with brothers Coke and Phil in the early 1960s.

From those early days of growth and exploration with his brothers to a thrilling tenure in Carlos Santana’s touring band, to the formation of the seminal early '70s Latin-fusion band Azteca, to his LPs, to touring with his daughter, Sheila E., Pete Escovedo has been one of the great ambassadors and innovators of Latin jazz. His shows are always a whirlwind of high spirits, high energy and pulsing Latin rhythms.

In addition to playing with his own bands, Escovedo has recorded and performed with a host of world-famous musicians, including Herbie Hancock, Mongo Santamaria, Bobby McFerrin, Cal Tjader, Woody Herman, Stephen Stills, Billy Cobham, Anita Baker, George Duke, Boz Scaggs, Andy Narell, Al Jarreau, Ray Obiedo, Dionne Warwick, Marlena Shaw, Barry White, Angela Bofil, Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez, Chick Corea, Dave Valentine, Najee, Gerald Albright and his original inspiration, Tito Puente.
