Celebrate American bars with comedic satire Tipped & Tipsy, winner at the 2013 San Francisco Fringe Festival. You'll meet bartender Candy, three of her hard-drinking regulars, the lascivious bar owner and a collection of other saloon staples. You'll laugh as Candy, with the help of a few cocktails, transforms this collection of lonely drunks into a loving family and feel her pain as she tries to keep her favorite regular from drinking himself to death. Written and performed by Jill Vice, a bartender herself, this production showcases her remarkable physical comedy skills as she transforms into various characters without any help from set or costume changes. This was a superb solo act, with an interesting and engrossing story, very good acting and well done character-switching.
I stayed interested the entire time, and the moral of the story was weaved in with the comedy, so it never felt preachy.
At the end, nearly the entire audience (the theatre was packed) gave Pidge a well-deserved standing ovation.
The act that precedes this performance ("Memphis on my Mind") was also quite good, especially the character-switching along with the corresponding southern accent-switching.
Pidge Meade's 40 Pounds in 12 Weeks: A Love Story is part of The Marsh's Festival of New Voices 2010.
Meade has appeared from coast to coast in everything from Shakespeare to Sondheim to really bad murder mystery dinner theatre. Favorite Bay Area roles include Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls and the title role in Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge.
