Incredible pianist that I'm sure will go far in life! I really enjoyed his jazz styling that certainly showed his classical training too, and the other members of the trio truly impressed as well. Amazing that that was the first time they'd played together on stage! I love eating at the restaurant ahead of time too, and getting bumped up into the reserved section for doing so,Written on Aug 05 2010

Alfredo Rodriguez is a terrific piano player, and his group was excellent as well. He played a very long set (1:35), and the sound in Yoshi's was excellent.Written on Aug 04 2010
I didn't give it the highest rating because I didn't like many of the tunes he played. I don't know if they were his own compositions, but I didn't recognize many of them. These compositions showed his virtuosity on the piano, but I didn't find them to be musical.

The musicians were world class and the sound as always perfect. I felt privledged to see this amazing talent. I only had two minor complaints. If the person seating sees that you bought a GoldStar ticket, do they really have to put you in the back on the side when there are plenty of center seats available. It put a bad taste in my mouth. Yes, 80% of those seats remained empty. Oakland would not do that.. Also, does it really take 20 minutes to get a glass of water. I wanted to go get one from the bar but the music was outstanding so I did not dare leave my seat.Written on Aug 04 2010

Hot, young new piano wonder from Cuba. I was delighted to be present at Afredo's first Yoshi's appearance, because next time, you can be sure the place will be packed to the rafters! His fluidity with salsa rhythms, jazz improvisation, balladry with quicksilver finger technique is nothing short of dazzling.Written on Aug 04 2010

Description
In his first year since moving to the United States, Alfredo Rodríguez has played to capacity crowds at the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl; the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas; the Detroit Jazz Festival; the Monterey Jazz Festival; the famous Newport Jazz Festival; the San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the Gilmore Keyboard Festival. Both his New York and his Los Angeles debuts sold out. His Miami and Dallas debuts both sold out.
Opening for Herbie Hancock and others, Alfredo played for 18,000 fans at the LA Symphony’s official welcome for Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl. He is working on his debut album with music producer Quincy Jones.
It’s a lot for his first year, but this 24-year-old is definitely not slowing down. Most recently, he co-wrote with Quincy Jones the music for the song “Better City, Better Life” which was chosen to be the Official Theme Song of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Rodriguez trained in the famous Manuel Saumell Classical Music Conservatory until his lucky break came in 2006 when he was selected as one of twelve pianists in the world to play at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival. In Montreux, Alfredo was noticed by legendary music producer Quincy Jones. Just like Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Rodriguez struck a chord in Jones who decided to begin working with Rodriguez.
Rodriguez's debut CD will be released in July of 2010 on Qwest Records and his first European tour will be this summer. His influences range from Bach, Beethoven, and Stravinsky to Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, and Quincy Jones.
