The Realistic Orchestra and Kim Nalley was amazing on Saturday night. Talented group and amazing voice. I recommended to my friends to check them out at the Fillmore and San Jose jazz festival....Written on Jun 30 2008

Pearl's is a very nice jazz club, and every seat is a good one because it holds less than 100 people. It was a bit small, however, for a 17-piece band that included four trumpets and four trombones, but the band was shot. Some songs and arrangements were terrific, a couple (the Prince song in particular) didn't work for me. I would love to have heard just one big-band standard (Glenn Miller?) as part of the set because the band would have nailed it.Written on Jul 01 2008

Music was great- what wasn't great was the fact that we felt like we were being pushed out for the second set after we paid $12 each drink for something that would've been $7-10 elsewhere. I will definitely go see Realistic Orchestra again but probably not at this location.Written on Jun 30 2008

Description
The instrumentation of Realistic Orchestra is based on a century-old classic ensemble known as the “big band” or “jazz orchestra” which includes 13 horns and a rhythm section of drums, upright bass and keyboards. adding to this foundation is guitar, electric bass, electronics, guest DJs, guest vocalists and the one and only Dublin (The Shotgun Wedding Quintet), whose collaborations with the band are unlike any other hip-hop on the planet. These elements, combined with modern electronic influenced grooves, epic arrangements and cutting:edge jazz improvisation, create the distinct and unmistakable sound of the Realistic Orchestra.
Kim Nalley has sung at most of the major jazz festivals throughout the world, garnering rave reviews along the way, and has performed with heavyweights from James Williams, Jimmy McGriff and Billy Higgins to Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony. She combines a lithe, beautiful sound and compelling sense of swing with just enough old-school razzle dazzle to create an instant and genuine rapport with her audience. Nalley topped the success of her 2003 CD, Need My Sugar, with 2006's astounding She Put a Spell on Me, her powerful, heartfelt tribute to Nina Simone, which was shortlisted for the Grammy.
