Activists and authors Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani will speak at the Commonwealth Club about their new book collaboration, Beyond the Possible: 50 Years of Creating Radical Change in A Community Called Glide
. Rev. Williams is the founder and minister at Glide Memorial United Methodist Church and Mirikitani is the Emmy award-winning TV journalist and founding president of Glide Foundation. Together, the pair has been working since 1967 to make Glide Memorial United Methodist Church the spiritual soul of San Francisco, fighting for its pour and disenfranchised. In the new book, Rev. Williams lays out the lessons he's learned from events including the civil rights movement, the Harvey Milk assassination and the Patty Hearst kidnapping.
