The Salkind International Piano Duo Festival presents a rare opportunity to experience the rich musical heritage of the Baltic region as it spotlights world-class artists in a series of concerts that capture the spirit of similar Russian and Eastern European festivals. The 2014 Salkind Festival showcases performances by distinguished American and international piano duos at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where you'll be transported on A Baltic Voyage with musical treasures from the countries that border the Baltic Sea -- Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany and Poland. The commission of a new work, Mirrors - Variations on a Traditional Swedish Dalecarlian Ballad for two pianos, by the distinguished Swedish composer Nils Lindberg, will be premiered on Friday, while a second commission of a new work for two pianos, Echoes of Tchaikovsky, by German composer Marcel Bergmann, will be premiered at the Saturday concert. The Chorus and Freedom Band are pleased to announce that the 35th annual Pride Concert’s emcee and master of ceremonies is Supervisor Scott Wiener with special guest Jason Galisatus. Musical guests joining LGCSF and the Freedom Band at the 6:00pm show include the Metropolitan Community Church and Vocal Minority, the small ensemble of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus.
The 9:00pm concert includes the Metropolitan Community Church Choir and the Oakland-East Bay Gay Men’s Chorus, featuring its small ensemble OnQ.
