Electrifying audiences at its 1896 premiere, the symphonic masterpiece Also sprach Zarathustra became immortalized in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. And it is now embedded in the classical canon as well as pop culture. Hear the entire masterpiece live as Michael Tilson Thomas leads the San Francisco Symphony through this tone poem by the great German composer Richard Strauss, along with other works featured in 2001, including the By the Beautiful Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss Jr. and György Ligeti's ethereal Lux aeterna. The concert also features the vocal prowess of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and works by Lukas Foss and Charles Ives. An informative talk begins one hour before the concert. Learn More

The orchestra was too loud and covered the choir voices. Need more men in the choir to balance the women voices. The choir singing is a little bland and can exert more excitement in certain passages. The two soloists were very good.
