Former music director Edo de Waart returns to perform with the San Francisco Symphony for the first time since 1997. The evening begins with an introduction to the music of Franz Schreker, an Austrian opera composer whose music combines the stylistic traits of several artistic movements and whose immersive scores are cinematic in their ability to draw the listener into the story. This innovative and once-obscure composer has seen a revival in popularity in recent years. The program also includes Rachmaninoff's sophisticated and modern Fourth Piano Concerto and the thundering Organ Symphony of Camille Saint-Saëns, his last and most dramatic symphonic work. Sweet sweet music...

If you like gathering with a couple thousand of your closest San Franciscan friends and together being bathed in meticulously and beautifully produced vibrations from a symphony orchestra, then get ready to treat your ears (and to a lesser extent your eyes) to an experience which will leave you resonating with delight and, in this specific case, some powerful melodies courtesy of Dvorjak!

Excellent SF Symphony evening in the city via Goldstar! Beethoven & Dvorak played wonderfully; Premier First Tier seats are still quite a distance away, but worth the Goldstar price.

My 10 year old son especially enjoyed hearing the New World Symphony live, and also the Q&A session after the concert.
