Freddy Cole Sings the Great American Songbook at the RRazz Room

Full Price:
$40.00
Our Price:
$20.00

Just in time for Valentine's Day, spend an evening with Lionel Frederick "Freddy" Cole, the youngest brother of Nat "King" Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities between the brothers' voices and, just like Nat, Freddy plays piano and sings, yet his voice is raspier, smokier and perhaps even jazzier. Freddy Cole is a nonpareil vocal interpreter of the Great American Songbook and a superbly swinging pianist to boot. Head out to the RRazz Room with your sweetheart for a concert to remember. I felt some trepidation about seeing Sandra's new show after her resolutely disastrous New Year's Eve show at the Castro two NYE's ago. At that show she was unfocused, unprepared, ill-tempered and it was a horrible evening. But I've been a SB fan since the early days and I like to support her no matter what. I'm happy to say that this show was really good. It was rehearsed. It was focused. She looks great. There was a good mix of personal stories, social commentary, jokes, and music. I think this show will do really well for her and I recommend it highly.

Great show! Bought tickets for my boyfriend's birthday to see if she could redeem herself after that disappointing New Year's Eve show at the Alcazar. Small intimate venues are her forte! It felt like we were hanging out with a bunch of friends, the material was hilarious, and Sandra was back to her old ways of entertaining her fans!! My BF has seen her 5-6 times and he loved it! Drinks and food are always wayyyyy overpriced here but we love the Rrazz Room.

We both loved the show. It had been YEARS since either of us had seen her live. Great energy in her comedy and her songs! She was fired up. Fun seeing her test material on us too! Will likely return later in the run to see how things evolve. An encore or autographs outside would've been gravy but...you can't have it all!

Laughed so hard I hurt. She's brilliant! AND the musicians were phenomenal. Don't hesitate to go, especially at this price. A terrific evening.

Description

For 25 years, Sandra Bernhard has been challenging fans and critics with her knife-edged humor, satire and emotive performances on film, television and stage.

Her critically acclaimed 1998, one-woman Broadway hit, “I’m Still Here...Damn It!” which played the Booth Theater, had critics raving. Created and conceived by Bernhard, the show first ran for five months off-Broadway at New York’s Westbeth Theatre, where it garnered ecstatic reviews. The New York Times called Bernhard’s performance: “An angst driven, foul-mouthed poison-laced joy ride that banks and careens frenetically through the worlds of fashion, celebrity, rock, and religion … In her own voice, unfiltered, Bernhard is a living, breathing bonfire.” The show went on to play sold-out runs in Boston and San Francisco, and one of the Bay Area performances was filmed for an HBO special (“I’m Still Here…Damn It!” which aired in the summer of 1998) photographed by cinematographer Haskell Wexler, and produced and directed by Marty Callner.

Since her first film accolades in 1983 in Martin Scorsese's “The King of Comedy” featuring Jerry Lewis and Robert De Niro, Bernhard has since appeared in numerous films including “Inside Monkey Zetterland,” “Hudson Hawk” and more recently, “Dinner Rush.” Throughout her career, Bernhard’s formidable presence has also had a place on television. From 1991-1996, she portrayed Nancy on “Roseanne,” and has had guest starring roles on “Ally McBeal,” “Chicago Hope” and “Will & Grace.” She has appeared on “Late Night with David Letterman,” as well as “The Tonight Show,” “Rosie O’Donnell” and “The View.” She hosted the season premiere of “MadTV” and the Bravo network recently profiled her career. In 2001, Bernhard hosted her own talk show, “The Sandra Bernhard Experience” for A&E television.
