Writer and comic Bruce Vilanch steps into a role previously performed by Bert Lahr and Red Skelton in this production of Du Barry Was a Lady. Featuring music and lyrics by Cole Porter, the story follows a hapless nightclub washroom attendant who wins the Irish Sweepstakes. An inadvertent dose of knock-out drops transports him to a dream world where he imagines himself as King Louis XV in pursuit of the lovely and mischievous Madame Du Barry. Porter's score features terrific numbers including "Friendship," "Well, Did You Evah?," "Do I Love You?," "Katie Went to Haiti" and "But in the Morning, No." Learn More

While the acting/presentation was good, the problem was the story--it just wasn't that funny. Really, are jokes about disabled children visiting Santa supposed to put us in a holiday mood? A few moments--I'll give it that. We were warned about foul language and drug references--not general meanness.
Quotes & Highlights
“Deliciously delivered by the talented (and adorable) David Sinaiko…the impossible (but true) story becomes all too real. He embodies a youthful exuberance, clear intelligence, and savvy sarcasm. And his strong stage presence whisks the audience away (NOT in a manger) on this wild ride.” —Bay Area Times
