Is there a lineup posted somewhere? I didn't "come to see someone", as I was asked at the door, but I don't know who all was up on stage. Justin (and I remembered his last name last night, but it has escaped me), did a frighteningly good impression of "generic white lady on Muni announcement". That was scary in a funny way. Less funny but more scary was the schizophrenic style of the woman following him. A couple of more polished guys and some painfully-awkward beginners... well, can I complain? The tickets were free.Written on Apr 12 2011
But the food was pretty awful, and overpriced to boot (yes, I'm used to SF prices; I live and work here). We had to have our drinks -- soda, mind you, not booze -- fixed three times -- the first time the syrup mix was way off, and then the replacement order was wrong. I ended up with a decent lemonade and counted myself lucky. We won't be back.

None of the aspiring comics were funny, but it was a good time nevertheless. The mood of the crowd was supportive of new talent, and the room is very intimate.Written on Oct 26 2010

Don't get your expectations up that you will see really good comedians. The jokes were not always funny but it's an opportunity to support those individuals just beginning.Written on Jan 20 2012

This was a fun event. The Purple Onion seems like a great place for newer comics. It was a little unclear whether or not there was any waitstaff or whether you could order food. I would definitely have someone make an announcement at the beginning to clarify. The gentleman behind the bar was friendly and got drinks (beer & wine only) out quickly when we went up to order them. The comics were funny, some more than others. All in all, I had a great time. I love supporting new stand up comics, so I'll definitely be back.Written on Nov 09 2011

About the Ticket Supplier: San Francisco Comedy College
Since 1999, the San Francisco Comedy College (SFCC) has been offering the best group and one-on-one stand-up comedy training in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although their focus is stand-up, improv and comedy writing, people tell them that they are very much Second City in Chicago--without the pesky snow or delightful odor of Lake Michigan.
