Two skits were worth the price of admission. You get to see 10 original playletts some not that great. The fact is the two that I liked were worth going to the event for.

I give Shortlived 3.0 3 1/2 stars. It was very good, and every sketch was well done. I didn't find it to be quite as good as Shortlived 2.0, so that's why I took it down a small notch.

Of course, every 2 weeks, half of the plays will change anyway, so go see it!

It was a fun evening out.

I went the first or second night, so things were not well oiled. And
it's hard to separate the plays from the drunken lout with his empty
bottle of Jameson's in the front row. If you encourage people to drink
and party-they will do so! The plays were highly variable with real plodders and pretentiousness, to innovative ideas that worked and didn't. With two pure gems which made it seem worthwhile. Fun at Goldstar prices but I'm indifferent about going back.

ShortLived 2.0 or the second year of this festival of sorts.. Reminds me of a mini Fringe fest of new play wrights --

I would call them sketches and not short plays - some last as long or less than 90 seconds - so as all 8 or so plays - play out its more like seeing a well defined sketch show..

and a GOOD funny sketch show with some bright Ideas and some good acting and timing.

The serious sketches are actually the best.
I recommend this night of sketch comedy and I plan
to attend the finals - to see what writers make
it to the final weeks

Fun night - easy Bart access and the price is worth it

PS - Free Beer if you know some of the opening questions the cast ask you.. be prepared - Knwow their Names

SEE YOU THEIR - Vmedia

Description

The largest audience-judged playwriting competition in the nation, PianoFight’s ShortLived 3.0, this year running simultaneously in Los Angeles, returns to San Francisco with experienced playwrights, unknown up-and-comers and local, indy-theater companies all competing for the grand prize of being asked to pen a full length play which PianoFight will produce for one month – and it’s up to the audience to decide the winner. The event features 56 playwrights, 52 performances, 30 plus actors, 13 directors and two cities all wrapped into one show.

ShortLived 3.0, now in it’s third year in SF, will feature past winners Daniel Heath and William Bivins, as well as up and coming playwrights Bennett Fisher, Lauren Yee, Megan Cohen, Sam Leichter, Jon Brooks, Patricia Milton and Tim Bauer. Local theater companies Sleepwalkers, Threshold, Crisis Hopkins, Richard Jennings Music and Instrumental Theater (Paul Cello and Chrish Barth), will also be in competition against playwrights for a shot at the Grand Prize.

PianoFight’s SF directing team for ShortLived 3.0 includes Christy Crowley (The Position), Eric Reid (FORKING!), Devin McNulty (The S.H.I.T. Show), Nicole Hammersla (Monday Night ForePlays), Gabrielle Patacsil (directing team of ShortLived 1) and Rob Ready and Dan Williams (Artistic and Executive directors of PianoFight, respectively). The directors listed above will pull double duty as ShortLived 3.0 ensemble cast members, which also includes Julia Heitner, Rachel Ferensowicz, Jessica Cortese, Brittany Berg, Evan Winchester, Asher Lyons and Laura Zimmerman.

Another new element to the production this year is the addition of a house band on stage at every show. There are three bands in total filling the role, each performing for two rounds of the competition. April 2 – 24 is Arlen Hart and The Valentines, April 30 – May 22 is Sir Surrey, and Duncan and The Donuts will close out the final two rounds May 28 – June 19.

Rob Ready and Dan Williams will produce the SF competition, while PF Producing Company Members Nina Harada and Jeremy Mascia will head up the production in LA. Combined Artform’s Matthew Quinn rounds out the producing team.
