The love child of Dean Martin and Judy Garland!

Lua is a fantastic singer with an eclectic and super entertaining repertoire of originals, Latin, Italian, French, and jazz tunes backed by a superb band called "Twist!" Awesome percussion section, Tony Malfatti on reeds is an amazing accompaniment to Lua's voice and style, Dave Miotke on accordion gives the show a truly Parisian/international flavor, and Dr. Martineau at the keyboard is a masterful musician. Great show and a wonderful night out at a great jazz club!

Cheers to Lua & Twist as once again they put on a stellar show. We loved the eclectic and thoughtful selection and performance of the songs. Can't wait to listen to them again on the new CD!

Event Highlights

  • "Hadar is a triple threat: comedienne, chanteuse and storyteller... Her smile enchants, as delightful as her stage presence and well-balanced song selection... She has a gracious ease before her audience." --San Francisco Bay Times
  • "[Hadar] bends her rich and agile voice around original material, jazz standards and show tunes with power and grace... She finds the longing and uncertainty without missing the comedy." --TalkinBroadway.com

More Details About This Event:

Lua Hadar's ability to blend crowd-pleasing theatricality into her lively musical performances is not surprising, for she's studied both music and theater. After graduating with a B.A. summa cum laude in Theatre Performance, Hadar attended The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and The Dalcroze School of Music in Manhattan. As a young actress, Hadar appeared Off-Broadway and was selected to audition both for film director Milos Forman (for “Hair") and Metropolitan Opera coach Joan Dornemann. This led to years of vocal training and a series of wacky day jobs, including delivering singing telegrams dressed as a gorilla in a tux.

Lua’s love for languages and travel then led to a five-year residency in Italy with an Italian theater company, where she played hundreds of performances on tour in Spain, Switzerland and all over Italy. There she developed her already loony comedy style and also learned to direct, produce and tour manage -- in Italian. Upon returning to the States, Lua formed her own company, New Performance Group, and began producing original material and cabaret, while delivering instruction in the performing arts and maintaining international exchange with her Italian colleagues.

In San Francisco in 2001, Hadar co-founded the girl trio The Kitchenettes. She's recorded three CDs, most recently her solo CD, "It’s About Time." In addition to several shows, event series and master classes with The Kitchenettes, Hadar created and produced two solo cabaret shows, one of which tours currently, with the Jason Martineau Jazz Trio, to rave reviews.
