Freddy Cole Sings the Great American Songbook at the RRazz Room
- Full Price:
- $40.00
- Our Price:
- $20.00
Just in time for Valentine's Day, spend an evening with Lionel Frederick "Freddy" Cole, the youngest brother of Nat "King" Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities between the brothers' voices and, just like Nat, Freddy plays piano and sings, yet his voice is raspier, smokier and perhaps even jazzier. Freddy Cole is a nonpareil vocal interpreter of the Great American Songbook and a superbly swinging pianist to boot. Head out to the RRazz Room with your sweetheart for a concert to remember. This was my second time to see Spencer during his current run and the Friday performance was even better than the one a week earlier. He was more relaxed, had more fun, and added his talented former pianist! He performed following the briliant Marilyn Maye, so it was great to see his almost sold out fans in place. Spencer featured songs mostly from his new CD and definitely earns the rave reviews he has been getting from the national press. Congrats, Spencer, your oldest Groupie is so pleased to see you back where you belong and earning deserved success.Written on Sep 21 2009

Spencer Day was at his best last evening, not only with her clever lyrics and intriquing melodies, but by the joy he spreads! His versality was very impressive - from songs with deep messsages to amusing songs on the women in history! With his very talented musicians along with a singer, Spencer makes everyone feel better and thankful for his presence.Written on Sep 10 2009

I've been a big fan of Spencer Day for years now and his performances are always fantastic. However, this event was originally advertised as a CD Release Party for his CD, "Vagabond." While he did perform several new songs from that album, he also announced before the third song that he was hoping to sign a contract for an eventual spring 2009 release of the CD. That was a disappointment (especially having just seen him a few months ago and again a few days ago, so some of the "new" material wasn't new to me). I guess I can't fault him for what is probably an "industry" snafu. But the space lends itself to a great intimate cabaret experience, and the staff do a fine job with the food and drink orders.Written on Dec 11 2008

Quotes & Highlights
- "Day has never opted for the easy way to fame, which is probably the reason he's not as famous as his talent deserves." --San Francisco Chronicle
- “Day delivers original cabaret pop with the elan and confidence of a crooner much beyond his years. Think Michael Buble without the shtick or Rufus Wainwright without the affectations.” --Minneapolis Star-Tribune
- "Whether he’s covering Billie Holiday or the Beatles, crooning his original works or merely improving, Day pulls together shows that are memorable for their tight sets (performed with his awesome backing band).” --SF Weekly
Description
There is a moment in the rare career wherein one is vaulted from a heralded obscure talent to a permanent placement in history's vernacular. Spencer Day's career is morphing to the latter. The current tour is not simply about playing high-profile venues around the world, nor simply about the release of a long-awaited, highly acclaimed album Vagabond, but the synergy of forces that are coming together to transform Spencer Day into the widely acclaimed artist critics know he will become.
