Fabuous play, wonderful direction, and well acted by a diverse cast who got into roles that were not necessarily a match for their pysiognomies. Custopm made redeemed themselves and more (after the very disppoiting Water Engine last year--I have seen bad Mamet at ACT also, so maybe that experience was more the mamet than the company).

Keep it coming, Custom made and Tony Kushner!

Very poor production in every respect, including the play and script itself. This is the second time we have tried this company. It will be our last. Both productions have been big disappointment.

It was very deep and made you think. It was a little choppy. I did enjoy the women playing the male parts. You have to be in the mood for this type of play.

Tony Kushner is always good no matter who saz his lines. This is a small production of the show, and its good/
With mix cast as always in Kushner work women are cast as men (not sure he wrote it that way?)

The cast is overall good and regional folks.. who do well.
The show runs just 90 min.. thats usually not the case for Tonys work.

The show is worth the price and a good evening of thoughtful Russian metaphors.

If you see the show - The sightliness in the theater are poor - so its best to sit right up front - or way in the back and avoid too many people making it difficult for you to see the cast perform the show.

More Information About Slavs! Thinking about the Longstanding Problems of Virtue and Happiness

Quotes & Highlights

  • "It's an intellectual farce that provides great humor and raises philosophical questions." --San Francisco Bay Times

Description

"Slavs! Thinking about the Longstanding Problems of Virtue and Happiness" is Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tony Kushner's legendary follow up to "Angels in America." Leaving the familiarity of New York, Kushner transports us to Russia circa 1985 at the beginning of Perestroika, through the fall of the Soviet empire in 1991. Along the way we encounter leaping Bolsheviks, drunken lesbians, wandering children and even a Babushka or two. Both brilliantly funny and timelessly sad, Tony Kusnher's thoughtful play gets a unique, cross-gendered production from The Custom Made Theatre Co. that isn't afraid to ask the eternal questions, while laughing at the presumption of such a task.
