Seats in the center/center of the orchestra - great view. Ballet first half was a little constrained and lulling. Pretty but dull. Second half was full of fun and silliness - with a surprise that knocked my socks off! Good times, Goldstar, thanks for the mini-subscription!

First half was a little slow and somber compared to what we expected for a holiday show, but the second half was awesome!

Following in the footsteps of founder Smuin, these people are not afraid to dance to their own tune. The first half was classical and the second was pop, jazz, cool, and fun. Obviously they are on a budget and the fact that they present so well with minimal costume changes, no orchestra, and a complete lack of pretension is a great testament to how much everyone involved loves what they are doing. There is nothing standing between the performers and the audience... the dancers delivered their very talented "all" right up to the last row. I did find it rather difficult not to sing along to the pop songs, but I behaved myself. The tap dancing was a pleasant surprise, and the solo tapper blew me away. Looking forward to spring!

Mozart Requiem - World Premiere: Amy Seiwert, Choreographer
To The Beatles, Revisited: Michael Smuin, Choreographer

The Spring program features the romantic ballet Momentum by internationally celebrated choreographer Choo San Goh. Set to a Prokofiev piano concerto both lush and bold, Momentum is renowned for its clean, sculptural lines and streamlined partnering. Also featured is a World Premiere by Choreographer-in-Residence Amy Seiwert, set to the haunting, powerful music of Mozart’s Requiem. A former dancer with Smuin Ballet, Amy Seiwert has won numerous awards and critical accolades. The San Francisco Bay Guardian says, “[Seiwert] has one of the Bay Area’s most intriguing voices… fresh, mysterious, and mesmerizing.” Rounding out the bill is To The Beatles: Revisited, a hip, entertaining celebration of the most influential group in the history of rock ’n’ roll. Originally created in 1984 by Michael Smuin, the piece is set to Beatles hits such as “Help,” “Day Tripper,” “Sgt. Pepper,” and “Come Together” and highlights the charm, the warmth, and the wit of the boys from Liverpool.
